Lurking around every corner…

ooo, sooo scary

ooo, sooo scary

…is disease! I caught a nasty little bug last week. It was the kind of cold that had me either sleeping or staring off into space. As a result, I’m behind on everything. Super annoying!

So today is a this and that post while I play catch up.

  • I made the big leagues, baby. I’m getting guest posting spam in my inbox.
  • I loved hearing your thoughts on newsletters/mailers. Consensus is: don’t bog down the inbox with a bunch of emails. By the way, do you think the term “mailing list” still has a bad rap? Oh, and sign up for my newsletter.

The Other Thing:

  • Ask Me Anything is still on the table. I raided Happy Whisk’s prize cupboard—one of the few things she kept—and I’m handing goodies out on answer day.

Share! It will make you happy, trust me.

While you’re here…

Sign up for my newsletter and I'll send you my Double Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe free. Other benefits include being the first to know exciting news, first to receive sneak peeks and sale information. Mailers are sparse.

  1. Hi Holly – first hope you feel better soon …

my question – once you work out HootSuite – please give us a brief summary run down – thanks …

Take care and all the best – Hilary

  2. Sorry you are sick.
Elizabeth Craig is really good with Hootsuite.
The IWSG has a newsletter and mailing list, so I don't think either is bad.

    1. I think 'mailing list' might be losing it's bad rep of selling names too.

  3. Get well fast. It's not the time of year to be sick. 🙂 Congrats on the spammers. They are so cute and I wonder if they know how much we appreciate their attention? I'll look for your Trick or Treat Reads on Twitter.

    1. Thanks! I feel like I have arrived.

  4. I wondered who that was in the cupboard. And here, I blamed Tim. Bad wife that I am.

    Feel better soon.

Newsletter and mailing lists. I dunno. Back when I decluttered my digtial I unsubscribed to most all of them. The ones I kept were Barnes because they gave me a coupon and BB&B (even though I rash-out when I walk in there, I kept the newsletter). Then I also kept the BookBub and Book Garilla I think it's called because I sometimes see free or real cheap ebook deals.

Okay, bagels are ready. I just took a bite of the salt one. OMG. So flippin' good.

    Feel better!

    1. I'll leave a note next time.

  5. There seems to be a cold going around, that time of year again. Get better soon! Enjoy your tweeting escapade. I haven't tried Hootsuite, I'll have to give it a go because I'm totally unscheduled on Twitter.

    1. A tweeting escapade–I like the sound of that.

  6. Glad you're joining Trick-or-Treat Reads. Everyone should join! =D

    1. Yeah! It's a fun Halloween treat.

  7. Hope your feeling better. Those bugs are nasty fellers who don't want to leave sometimes. I've tried HootSuite but haven't gotten the hang of it. I'm with Hilary and hope you'll fills us in when you figure it out.

    1. Thanks. Hootsuite looks like a great way to handle all you media accounts at the same time. I only have Twitter, so I won't be using it to its full capacity. But I did schedule a tweet for testing and it worked!

  8. Sorry you've been sick but I hope you are back to 100% soon. You have lots of great stuff going on! I'm curious to see how your giveaway through Twitter goes – hope it is a success! One of my goals is to figure out how to use Twitter better. I never seem to do it though LOL.

    Take care!

    1. I'm not great at Twitter either. :/

  9. There's nothing like spam to make you feel important.

I think newsletters should be monthly at the very most. Weekly is more for ads.

  10. Sickness is no fun, but it's an excuse for rest and sleep. I'd rather not have to use that excuse and I'm sure it's probably the same for you.

The personal spam messages are so exciting. They make me feel wanted.

  11. Ah, spam messages on the blog.
Mine are confusing. Some are gibberish. Some — oddly give me a back-handed compliment on my post, but tell me I can do better. What's the strategy there? Are they hoping I'll be insulted enough to click on their name to tell them off — and thus follow whatever link they want me to follow?

    1. I get lots of spam comments too. Sometimes they are fun to read and make me giggle.

  12. I hope you're recovered by now. I've done the Patricia's Halloween giveaway the last two years, and it was pretty fun. Not sure any actual reads or reviews came out of it, but I got several free books and met some new authors. It's a different group every year.

LOL to spam. I love it and I hate it.

  13. Being sick is no fun. I hope you're feeling better now. You spoke of it as if it were past tense, so I'm crossing my fingers. Woot woot for hitting the spam leagues! Good job!

What is this reference to <em>Ask Me Anything</em> being on the table? I'm not sure I know what that is.

    1. Guess it didn't translate my html. 🙁 Whoops.

      1. Yeah, I had to add a plugin to strip out html because the active links in the spam folder were hogging resources. 🙁

    2. I am over the cold!

And on the last post, I put out an ask me anything you want question. Since I was sick, I never got around to answering them, so I put it out again for more questions.

  14. I'm so sorry to hear you're sick. I hope you recover very soon. Good luck with the Halloween story! I'm ashamed to admit I signed up for Hootsuite but couldn't make head or tail out of the instructions and dashboard. I gave up…

    1. Don't be–it's crazy in there!

  15. Holly, sorry a dreaded disease grabbed you. Hope you're all good now. I tried Hootsuite when i first got on twitter, but decided life was more important than trying to get my head around it! Gah! Good for you!

    1. Yeah, it's not intuitive at all!

  16. I caught that lousy bug my first day at the beach. Made the first week miserable, so I hope you heal quickly! I've no idea what Hootsuite is, and that's probably a good thing I have a WIP that is demanding my attention!

    1. That's sucky–at the beach too! 🙁

  17. so what you is saying is that you is contagious?

    1. Yes, better clean your keyboard. 🙂
