Day 5: The ABC’s of Appetizers

starters, the first course, hors d’oeuvres,
antipasto, amuse-gueule, amuse-bouche…

No matter what these little treats go by, they are typically the most popular food at the table. I’ve always loved appetizers (okay, who hasn’t? anyone?…). They are cute little bites of food packed with flavor. I looked up the most popular appetizer trends in the US (according the US Foods).

  • Street foods (dishes inspired by street food like mini tacos)
  • Meatballs (the fancy ones with stuff stuffed inside)
  • Sliders
  • Toast with toppings
  • Hummus
  • Dips (usually a served in a variety)
  • Sets of three different but complementary bites
  • Stacked creations
  • Asian appetizers (wontons, pot stickers, lettuce wraps, etc.)
  • Bar menus (happy hour/late night) where one can chose from five appetizers plus five wines and five cocktails

My appetizer book features my favorite apps and some good old-fashioned ones too. I love the classics. You can never go wrong with deviled eggs especially with a salsa twist or elevated with shrimp!
