Welcome to my New Home on the Web

Did you know the wisteria flower means welcome in the language of flowers?

Well, it does, and if you listen very carefully to the ones here, you’ll hear them ask you if you’d like some coffee and cookies.

A lot has happened over the last few days (like deleting my old blog accidentally). *Oopsies* 🙂

What should you do now?

Well, if you want to come back…

Friend Connect is disappearing in March for non-Blogger sites and with it, all connections. I brought the widget with me to hopefully bring you all over here and ‘cause I’m curious what’s going happen in March.

However, to make sure you keep me in your feeds, sign up to receive the rss feed or copy my URL and add it to your blogroll or reader.

You could also follow me on twitter – I not a huge twitterer, but every now and then, I do spout awesomeness and I do announce my blog posts there too.

I recommend you sign up (if you haven’t already) with Gravatar (A Globally Recognized Avatar). It associates your email address to your avatar. It is used by wordpress and many forums.

Now, about this site:

This is a self-hosted WordPress site. I moved to WordPress so I could build a site, not just a blog, and have complete control over the site and content.

I can also make special headers for special pages. Check out my cooking page for an example. (I moved this content into it’s own subsite in 2014.)

There is so much more and stuff I’m still learning. I will share it all in upcoming posts.

For those WordPressians out there, I’m using the Suffusion theme by Sayontan Sinha. It’s powerful and extremely well laid out with lots of customizable features.

So, what kind of cookies would you like to have?

Share! It will make you happy, trust me.

While you’re here…

Sign up for my newsletter and I'll send you one of my cookie recipes free. Other benefits include being the first to know exciting news, first to receive sneak peeks and sale information. Mailers are sparse.

  1. Added your new URL to my reader. Great new site. 🙂

    1. Lee, did this show up in your reader? Or did you follow a link here?

      And thanks.

  2. I found you! Thanks for leaving the comment on my blog, otherwise i wouldn’t have known you moved

    1. Yeah, I’m hoping Google Reader catches up. According to that help forum post not showing up in Google reader has been happening a lot lately. And now posts from my old Blogger blog aren’t showing up either.

  3. Wow. You know more about WordPress, a LOT more, than I do. On Blogger, as you may have noticed, I direct people to my WP blog to finish reading. My follower icon is gone anyway now from my WP blog. But Bloggers in general don’t know how to do WordPress (I had to get some help too) and are afraid. But maybe they’ll figure out how to do it. I just don’t want to deal with anything else. I don’t want to have to go through Google+ as Karen Gowen said that Bloggers might have to do.

I need to do that with Gravatar that you suggest doing. Hope I can figure it out!

Your blog here is lovely. I’m copying your URL to get it on my WP blogroll. And I’ve checked to subscribe to your posts. I know some followers have done this on my WP blog also.

    1. I thin WordPress is intimidating at first because it looks so different. I don’t really want to do Google+ either but we shall see.

I had planned on following your lead and post on blogger as well, but the feeds on my Blogger blog won’t post. Grrr.

Gravatar is super easy. (Way easier than WP :P)

      1. I know these posts were a while back, but I’m just getting back to blogging again after taking a break to attend to my daughter. She’s doing somewhat better now, but I also at my age have to slow down anyway.

I still post on Blogger. I simply do the post on WP and then cut and paste it into Blogger. Works well enough for me. But I still like the sleek look of WP, but I can’t figure out anything on my own besides the basics. It’s okay, though. My memoir seems to still be selling well after two years I think mainly because of all the blogging I did on Blogger, making some very wonderful friends such as you!

I never did try Gravatar. Maybe one day….

Oops. My outdated (it got hacked) email address came up. You may have my new one: edited out to protect Ann!

        1. I loved your memoir. While I was reading it I would often recite lines to whoever was around.

I like WP but it took me some intense time to get it down, and I work with computers! I’m still learning more everyday.

  4. Wow, love the new site, Southpaw. 😀

  5. My brother used WordPress on my website, too. I like it. Your new site is great. Thanks for leaving the link so I could find you. I did the Gravatar thingie.

WP does have a learning curve. I was happy I had my brother to help me. Took me forever to figure out how to put up a subscribe thingy. Gees.

But I love how easy it is to put up pages or delete them, etc… My brother is happy, because I’m not bugging him all of the time.

I’m still on blogger though. I ended up splitting posts. I do more writerly type things on Blogger and then do more audience oriented things on the website.

    1. The curve is definitively high for WordPress though I think Blogger is trying really hard to match them.

  6. I’m still following through Google Reader! Glad it all worked out. Knew it would. (Bet you weren’t sure though!)

    1. Oh right you are. I’m still not sure it did. :p

So, are you saying this post show’d up in your reader?

  7. My website is based on a WordPress thingie – see how un-knowledgeable I am? – but someone else set it up. I just use it. I am going to change your link on my blog roll as soon as I leave here. Do I have to sign in or can I just visit? I don’t want it to link to my website. I’m a techie idiot, what can I say?

    1. Everything is optional. I think as log as you add this to your blogroll you should get updates without a problem.

  8. Congrats on completing your move, love the new digs here. And thanks again for the mention on your sidebar, I do appreciate it 🙂

Now if you wouldn’t mind, is that chocolate chip cookies I smell baking? I’ll take a few, with a de-caf please …

    1. Yes, it is. Nice, warm, and gooey melted chocolate.

  9. Hey, your new blog popped up in my blog reader without my having to do anything this time! Your move of old followers must have been successful!

    1. YEAH! It finally showed up in mine too. It took close to 30 hours to show up!

  10. Hi there Southpaw! Well I’m back on the air with blogger. I started signing up with Word Press but it is so complicated because there is so much more available. Now that I’ve rebuilt my blogger site I’m happy with it. Interesting that your brought your Friend Connect. I didn’t know you could do that. That is one big reason I didnt want to move – all your friends have to refollow.

    Denise

    1. Bring it over was a lot easier than I thought it would be. Actually, WP is pretty good once you get the hang of it.

  11. Good luck with the new site 🙂 Love the wisteria pic!
I generally don’t like WordPress, Blogger is much better and user friendly, but the one thing I adore about WordPress is this chain-commenting, where you can directly reply to the comment underneath it and not at the bottom of all other ones. I wish Blogger had that.

    1. Yes, the chain commenting is wonderful! It’s a lot easier to kept track of what you’ve said and to who too!

  12. Groovy new site! So this is wordpress huh? Wonder why my WP profile doesn’t show up automatically for commenting…

    1. Maybe because it is selfhosted?

  13. It looks clean, professional and beautiful!

  14. Very cool new place you have here! Congrats! I have heard great and wonderful things about wordpress, so I hope it’s good to you!

    1. Oh me too. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

  15. nice blog. I did not know that about wisteria. I’d like gingersnaps please.

    1. Gingersnaps coming right up.

  16. Great new site! It looks awesome. 🙂

  17. Snickerdoodles for me … warm and soft, right out of the oven thank you very much. Nice new blog. Looks very professional.

And thanks for placing my book OPENING on your side bar! the support is much appreciated!

    1. Thanks and you’re welcome. Snickerdoodles are a fascinating cookie – so simple but good with such a fun name.

  18. And I added you to my Blog roll so I always know when you post a new blog.

  19. I’m not a fan of WordPress, but they do have some awesome layouts. I like what you’ve done here.

    1. Thanks. I’ll admit I wasn’t at first. I had to knuckle down and really learn the ins and outs.

  20. Hi Holly .. it came through my reader .. I’ll have to be back to have a good look sometime .. well done is all I can say .. looks very impressive … see you soon .. cheers Hilary
