I’m Sorry But I Cannot Comment On That

nocommentI mean I really can’t! Last week Blogger and I did not get along. It just would not let me comment on anyone’s blog other than my own. I managed to get a few in before Blogger threw me out but not many.

I jumped through all the hoops recommend by the help forum to no avail. I have my fingers crossed this week “it” is in a better mood.

In Other Exciting News:

I weeded through all of my old posts and fix links leading to the old URL. I fixed some typos along the way and even made a few updates.

I also re-commented my comments back to simply Southpaw. Again, I apologize to those of you who subscribe to comments and received lots of emails.

Did you notice the little buttons icons up at the top? I made those! They all link somewhere although some of the pages are still empty. I’ll be adding the information back soon.

New Things I Discovered:

You can have a custom ico for your blog now. See mine in the tab bar? It’s a mini-me! To add one of your own, go to your dashboard > layout and click the Favicon box. You don’t have to create the ico yourself. All you need is a png, gif, or jpg.

Pages do not allow comments even when I allow them. This seems to be happening to several people, if it is happening to you drop a note in the forums. They are trying to sort it out.

My follower’s gadget shows up maybe half of the time. I don’t know why this is. I tried removing it and then readding it, but it is still having problems. I left a note in the help forums about that as well. Did it show for you?

Question of the day: Do you know what a group of bears is called? No goggling! Just look at my page to find the answer.

  1. Hi Holly .. well it's certainly pretty and I've had lots of 'email comment follow-ups' from you during this process …

I'm not goggling to find out what a group of bears is called – it has to be 'a sleuth'.

Cheers – enjoy the week – and hope all things blogger get sorted .. Hilary

  2. PS – the followers are all there .. 285 … H

  3. Love the autumnal foliage. 🙂

I had that google commenting problem too. When you sign in, you have to uncheck the little “stay signed in” box. This worked for me. No problems since then.

  4. Had to try and look *ta ta!!* I'm commenting. I've had a couple of followers unable to comment on my blog but Blogger won't let me make any changes to the way my comment box is set up. I don't know why. This all seems to be working well. Love your Flavicon. Might try one myself. I clicked on Follow and Blogger tells me that I already am Following you so nothing lost there either.

  5. That custom icon things is cool! Had no idea you could do that. Thanks for the tip!

  6. You've done a great job with your blog. I like the buttons at the top there, especially. I think my blog needs a makeover, too. lol

  7. When Blogger kept kicking me out, to the point I could hardly access my own blog, I switched from IE to Firefox. I've not had problems since then.

  8. Nice redecorating … I'm liking the foliage going on here, very Fall-festive 🙂

  9. I set one of my pages up to allow comments and it works.

  10. I like those buttons at the top. Very nice. I don't know why Blogger makes life so difficult for some people. It must be certain browsers just don't mix well. I use Safari and I've never had any trouble.

  11. I seem to have the same problem with certain blogs. It's really annoying when I type a whole long comment and discover it disappeared.

    Cute Favicon!

  12. Love your little linky buttons! Thos are hot! Sorry you are having such trouble, and good luck getting it all sorted!

  13. Love the autumn foliage on the back of your blog! Good luck with trying to comment. I have no idea what the problem is.

Now to see if I can make a custom icon…

  14. I had that problem with blogger for a while as well. I can't remember what I did to fix it, I think it had something with staying loged in.

  15. Wow – I love the look of your blog – you've been busy!

  16. I love the little buttons! I'm looking forward to clicking on them and being transported to a whole new world–or page at least 😀

  17. Yeah, google has been causing a lot of problems lately. I know many are switching. I do not know what a group of bears are…

  18. I have to try to do that little favicon thing! Thanks for the tip.

  19. Hilary, you're right. It also called a sloth, but I didn't want to call you all sloths! LOL

LR, I tried the uncheck thing but it booted me out anyway. This has happen a couple of times, perhaps it is server updates. It's infruiating when it happens but it seems to clear up within a week.

Roaslind, that's weird about the comment box. They did an update recently and now little bugs are cropping up.

    Jessica, you're welcome.

Miranda, blog makeovers are fun! And less work than moving funiture around your own home.:)

    L. Diane, I tried IE, Firefox, and Chrome. This morning things seems to be okay.

Joanne, thanks. I'm planning to change the background to mach the seasons.

    Alex, you lucky dog!

Lee, Safari is the only one I didn't try.

Carolyn, I started copy my comment before posting so if that happened I wuldn't have to strat all over again. 🙂

    Wouldn't threaded comments be nice…

  20. Hi Holly .. that was a guess .. because you were sleuthing around looking for answers to your blogger problem!! But it's true .. a group of bears is a sloth or sleuth .. amazing!! Cheers Hilary

  21. Holly, I do love your site. It's stunning. But Blogger…well, there are several reasons why I'm now on WordPress, and I thank you for stopping by the other day and leaving a comment on my excerpt #5 of my WIP.

And keep up the good work with your blog. I do hope Blogger gets things straightened out. (One thing WP has helped me with: I can't keep changing templates like I used to on Blogger, so I'm getting a lot more writing done!!)

  22. I call my followers “my sleuth”. More people might get it if the darn thing would show up!

  23. I was having problems with Blogger too last week. Talk about having a hissy fit (it not me).

PS I did go for a run today with pen AND paper. I had a lot of brainstorming to do. Okay, it did look like I was out of shape because I kept stopping. But I'm not complaining. 😀

  24. My followers don't show up all the time either. Don't know what's up with that. Please let us know if you find out.

  25. Hi Holly,
I miss the flowers at the top. Well…your followers button is there with my little picture. I couldn't figure out the mini you at first but then I did. Re-read your sentence under the title of your blog, you may discover an extra word. Other than that, it's good to see you and I look forward to more of your post.

Bears, my guess is a bunch of bears. LOL I'm too lazy to check.

  26. Blogger can be pretty fickle. Like for me your sleuth of followers is not visible–I've been having this same problem on my blogs at times as have others. Hitting F5 until it shows up usually works.
Otherwise your page is looking great. You are brave to experiment.

  27. I may have found a solution to the followers gadget. Read here: http://englishjavadrinker.blogspot.com/2011/09/followers-what-followers.html

  28. Great tip for blogspot users. I'm on self-hosted WordPress. Looks great here!

  29. A grizzle of bears?

Blogger occasionally stuffs up comments. It can be so frustrating when it happens.

    I love your buttons.

  30. I added an .ico to my blog, too–it's nice to not have Blogger's orange and white logo! 🙂

  31. The autumn colours are stunning. And I played with your little buttons last time I was here haha. Fun!

  32. UGH I hate it when Blogger doesnt let you comment. Lately I've been thinking of switching to wordpress but I also hear bad things about it too. Anyway- great post. I always enjoy reading your blog : )

  33. No idea…

I know blogger won't let me click “publish”. I have to switch computers to do that. Frustrating!

  34. A sleuth! I didn't google! I used this in my first novel, and my beta readers were always going, HUH?
