Dioptase is a deep blue-green to emerald green copper cyclosilicate (ring silicate) mineral. It’s transparent to translucent. It’s a fragile stone and must be handled with care.
Discovered in the late 18th century in Kazakhstan, copper miners believed they had discovered a huge deposit of emeralds. An analysis of the gem showed it was not emerald based on its hardness. Emeralds have a hardness of eight while these stone had a harness of five.
In 1797, Fr. René Just Haüy (a French mineralogist) named this newly discovered stone dioptase from the Greek dia, meaning “through,” and optima, meaning “vision”.
The occurrence of dioptase is rare. They are only found in the desert under special circumstance.

Discharging & Recharging
To recharge dioptase, place it among hematite stones. Store with clear quartz crystals when not charging or in use. (In stone therapy, when using stones to heal, their energy is used up, requiring the stones to be recharged.)
