New Year, New Look, and New Goals

2011. Wow. It’s a brand spankin’ new year. I was just wondering, when do we stop thinking of it as new? February?

I have a new look here. If you’re looking though feeds pop on over and check out my new digs. I rewrote the “About Me” page too. To get there just click the Biography-ish book above.

I don’t really do resolutions per say but I do make a new set of goals when the New Year rolls around. I know they sound like the same thing but goals seem more attainable than the illusive resolution.

My goals:

  • Finish the never-ending revisions of my WIP.
  • Finish the final edit of my children’s book and begin to query it.
  • Finish My Private Reef.
  • Get started on my world clothing illustrations.
  • Do a video of something for my blog. This may prove to be the most challenging.

I suspect many of you will be blogging about your own goals for the year, so I won’t ask you to repost it in the comments here. Instead, let me ask you this: What are your non-goals?

Attention Writers: Take my poll over there on the right.

Oh and…

Color for 2011: Honeysuckle
“Courageous. Confident. Vital. A brave new color, for a brave new world. Let the bold spirit of Honeysuckle infuse you, lift you and carry you through the year. It’s a color for every day – with nothing ‘everyday’ about it.” Pantone

  1. What a great list. Good luck with your goals!

  2. I love your new look, and I wish you success with all your goals. Not so sure about honeysuckle. I don't think it makes my favorite color list. I thought honeysuckles were yellow – what do I know – LOL. Now I'm going to read your new bio 🙂

  3. May 2011 bring all your dreams true!

  4. Great goals! Totally achievable. Can't wait to see what kind of video you cook up!

  5. Nice new look! Happy New Year and I'll cheer for the completion of the goals. 🙂 BTW, the color for the year 😀

  9. I love the look of your blog. Great job. I write when I can, that isn't listed with the other options. I do that because there are too many people interrupting me all the time. I'll check out the about me page too.

  10. I love the new look!!! It's awesome! Looking forward to seeing what you can conjur up! I have to say I'm jealous about all the fab changes but just can't let go of the Unedited look.

  11. A spanking, a spanking! Oh, wait… that's an adverb here… okay, never mind… great goal list! I hope you conquer them all!

Non-goals eh… is that like… I vow NOT to go bankrupt? Or is it more like… I think I might do a little traveling this year… if I can afford it… and have the time…(because both would be true for me…)

  12. Happy New Year and good luck with your goals per se. Love the look of the blog.

  13. Happy New Year!

  17. Love the new look! 🙂

And I like the quote for honeysuckle as well – sounds like a good colour to me!

Hope 2011 brings you lots of joy and laughter 🙂

  18. Pretty color. Calming, right? Love the goals, too. Where would we be without them? Still in bed I'm thinking. Happy 2011!!

  19. The blog looks nice! And I like goals over resolutions. Goals we work towards, resolutions we either succeed or fail at, no matter how hard we try.

Hope 2011 you achieve lots and have great success!

  20. Just popped in to wish you much fun in reaching your goals. Happy Writing. Happy Eating. Happy Cooking.

  21. Good luck with all your goals. I refuse to write mine down, so you're ahead of me.

  22. LOL. What a great idea. I've never thought of a non goal. Hmm, let's see … I'm not going to put pressure on myself to reach my goals. If they don't happen, stiff shitties. ;o) PS: love the new layout!!!

  23. I never know when to stop thinking it as 'new', though today I finally took the tree down. Hope 2011 is a good year for you

  24. I assume that pick block is honeysuckle? I'm glad you showed it because I immediately envisioned yellow.

I haven't written down my goals or non-goals. But I have a couple in my head.

Happy New Year! Good luck with your goals 🙂 You're right, it sounds a lot less daunting when you don't call them resolutions, hehe.

I like the new look! And the year stops feeling new somewhere around August I think.

  28. Hilary, I love the scent of honeysuckle too.

And Carol – I thought they were yellow too. I actually did a web search and found out they came be pink, white, or yellow.

Thanks for all the well wishes and I could I wish you all well too.

The only thing I’ve noticed that is a little funky with this new layout is the white background doesn’t always load right way. I’m looking into that.

  29. Colene, me too. I think it has to be something I don’t have to edit, but maybe it’s not as hard as I think it will be.

N.R. I think we all squeeze in writing when we are able, this is more of a if you had your druthers when would your write.

Thanks again for the well wishes and compliments. Keep ‘em coming.

Ooh, love the new look of your blog. Happy new year! My non-goal is to live life one day at a time and stop stressing about tomorrow. (Er, is that actually a goal?)

  31. Dempsey you’re ahead of me. I was just looking at the tree thinking …”It's almost time, but not right now.”

Yep Helen, the swatch is honeysuckle. I thought it was yellow too.
