Last week I took a few days to hike and camp in the beautiful White Mountains in New Hampshire. Though the elusive moose escaped me yet again, I did spy some incredible sites hiding in the forest floor like these mushrooms.

The variety of shapes and bright colors of the mushrooms amazed me. Have you seen mushrooms that look like these before?

Wow, those are beautiful! I live about two hours from the White Mountains, so I go up there a lot. Glad you like them :)

I haven't. They look magical. Better not eat these or they may have to send a search party out for you as you disappear into the forest on a mystical journey.Stephen Tremp

They look more like flowers than mushrooms – very cool!

I've never seen mushrooms like those before, but they're beautiful! The craziest mushrooms I've ever seen were in the French Alps. They're large, bright red button mushrooms with white polka dots — just like we typically draw when we're children! Apparently the iconic mushrooms often found in fairytale drawings really exist. But I was told never to touch them; they're highly poisonous.

Very cool. I love the red one. At first glance, I thought they were flowers. I wonder if they're poisonous? Probably the red one for sure.

I've never seen anything like these mushrooms before. They don't look like mushrooms. I wonder what species of fungus they are??

I love funky fungi. I pass a downed tree on my walk that has these layered mushrooms that look like it is wearing a taffeta brides maid dress–always wish I had a camera.

They almost look like flowers. Great photos.

I agree with Patti – great pics! And no, I've never seen mushrooms like these! The ones around here are white (ivory). Every year I get a couple exceptional ones in my yard. They start out looking like – a mushroom (imagine!), then they turn into an umbrella, then a plate, and then a bowl. They're really *trippy* and these changes take place over the course of 2-3 days. It's kind of cool to watch them morph from one stage to the next! :)

I did not touch these mushrooms at all. I’ve heard too many stories of accidentally poisoning.

  29. Southpaw on said:

Falen those are cool shrooms. The one that is as big as a hand must have been wild.
