Random Thoughts

WIP aka The Book

If things go as planned, I will finish the rough draft of my novel this month. Unfortunately, I don’t think I will meet my word goal, but that’s okay, it is after all only a draft. I am aware that I have some woefully underdeveloped scenes (okay more than some), so I’m not too worried about the final number. I also left stuff out – oopsies. I read on an author’s website that it is easier to flesh out than it is to cut out. I’m hoping he was right.

I’ve been blogging for almost seven months now. These little posts are a lot of work. First, ya gotta think of what to write, then how to write it, then actually write it, and then proof it. I am impressed with bloggers who’ve been blogging for years, kept a regular schedule, and kept it interesting. As for me, I’m switching to a warm weather blogging schedule. I’ll post twice a week instead of three. Of course, I made my mind up to alter my timetable on a nice sunny 70-degree day, now it’s rainy and 40 degrees. Go figure.

Several of my fellow bloggers give out great tips, handy hints, and awesome advice. I really, really wish I’d bookmarked those posts because I’ll never find them again.

I purchased a pie wedge server. It’s really nice – if you’re right handed. The serrated edge for cutting is only on one side, not the side useful for southpaws. You’d think I would have learned by now to check for those kinds of things before buying them.

Oh and all the super cool computer mouses are made for right-handers. The mouse pictured here is adorable but not practical. I think my hand would start cramping after ten minutes. Track balls work for both lefties and righties, but I don’t really care for track balls.

So here you have it, some random thoughts for Monday morning. Feel free to comment on them or leave your own random thoughts.

  1. That is a cute mouse! I'm always below my word count goal as well. I'm afriad to dish out information that is unneeded or boring. But then I go back and fill in the holes and it all works out!

    Good luck!

  2. That mouse does look like it would cramp up the hand. And I don't do the whole track ball either. It took me awhile to get used to the Magic Mouse by Apple, but I like it now.

Hey, I gave you an overly cute blog award over at my place! Thank you for being such a good friend here in blogger world.

  3. I imagine that is tough to find things designed for lefties. Now that would be a great business idea – an online store filled with all left-handed items!

  4. my brother is a leftie and my dad is ambidexterous (but that's mostly because the nuns forced him to use his right hand). Good times.
Also i would say it's easier to cut, than add, but that's just me. I have no real problems cutting

  5. Lefties are evil. EVIL!!!

    That was my random thought.

I've been pondering on a summer schedule as well but I write all my posts on one day, so most of my days are free for WIP writing. I think an X-Mas break is something I would benefit from…in time.

  6. You'd think, there are enough lefties that making left-handed stuff would be profitable. I'm lucky that I'm a…northpaw?

  7. My mouse died about six weeks ago. I purchased a Logitech one that is comfortable, will work for either hand, AND it's easy, easy to switch the functions of the buttons.

  8. That is such a cute mouse! I love that the mousepad is a block of cheese to go along with it 🙂 I am also impressed by the bloggers who have been doing it for years. What a commitment!

  9. Awww, I love that mouse! Congrats on the nearly finished draft – that's awesome. 🙂

  10. Congratulations on almost being done with your draft!

  11. Oh my gosh I feel like such a newbie being on the blog for barely two months!!! Actually my two month anniversary is tomorrow!

Good luck on getting done with your draft! I just finished mine about two weeks ago and it felt amazing!!! Can't wait till you get to feel it too!!

  12. Congrats on the potential finish of your draft. That's huge! I agree, blogging is hard. It's not always easy to find something of interest to talk about.

Oh, and the mouse is cute, but my hand would be one big cramp if I tried to use it. 🙂

  13. Cute mouse! I do bookmark great blog posts with helpful ideas. I keep them in a file on word. It's a great way to stay organized.

  14. Blogging does consume a large amount of time — and my sleep. But if you find it interferes with your writing — ax the blog time for awhile. Your writing will take you to your dream. May it soon come true for you, Roland

  15. Great random thoughts. I am a lefty too and sometimes rant to my husband how this world caters to the righties (although an inordinate amount of presidents have been lefties).

Congrats for almost being done with the WIP's first draft. Awesome! I wish I could say the same, but cannot…

My random thought: When is the rain supposed to go away? It's blowing around good here today!

  16. omg that mouse looks fabulous!! i want one!! 😀

and best of luck with your WIP! finishing a novel is a huge accomplishment 😀

  17. Enjoyed reading your random thoughts. 🙂

No manuscript in progress for me, but still, blogging can be challenging. I always have to 'wait' before I write, to feel that I have something to say…which eliminates the schedule that I'd love to have.
    Oh, well.
